The automotive glass replacement and repair market for light vehicles represents nearly 3 million annual services, worth €1.6 billion. The majority of these services concern the insured segment, representing 2.6 million interventions. Self-insured fleets, bodywork, and private individuals’ uninsured services complete the volumes. The segment is showing moderate growth, around 1%, analyzes Dominique Cadiou, Sales Director of Carglass . Structurally, the claims rate has even proven deflationary in 2023, notes Françoise Blais, Managing Director of Mondial Pare-Brise.

These trends are accompanied by a phenomenon that has been particularly pronounced over the past three years: inflation! Across all networks and services, it reached 9 or 10% last year. This observation can be linked to “structural, cyclical, and artificial” factors , according to Dominique Cadiou, who predicts a slight decline in 2024.

Multiple sources of inflation

The technological transformation of the market with the rise of ADAS is a first explanation for the rise in costs. “Driving assistance systems represented 3% of our interventions in 2015. This share will reach 35% this year,” estimates Dominique Cadiou. This development is compounded by ever-increasing glass surfaces, justifying a rise in the price of parts that is difficult to curb.
